A Sunny February Day at the First Saturday Outdoor Art Fair
This past weekend, I set up my booth at the First Saturday Outdoor Art Fair, hosted by DeGallery in Bryan, Texas. It turned into a beautiful, sun-filled day—one of those rare February afternoons that makes you forget winter entirely. I spent the day sharing my work, drawing live, and chatting with art lovers, fellow vendors, and friends.
Benjamin’s Creative Adventure
One of the highlights of the event was having my grandson, Benjamin, with me. He was absolutely thrilled to take part in the kid’s Valentine’s Day art activities, where he met several other children and got creative. He also made his rounds, as he always does, chatting with the other vendors and artists—who were just as delighted to speak with him! Texas artists and creators have such a warm and welcoming spirit, and it was wonderful to see Benjamin soak up that sense of community.
Live Drawing and Conversations with Visitors
While I worked on a large drawing for an upcoming painting, visitors stopped by to watch my "quick draw" process unfold. It’s always rewarding to share that part of my work, especially with those who enjoy seeing the energy of a piece come to life from the first strokes. I also brought along some of my paintings in progress, giving people a peek into my creative process.
Inspired by the American Bison
Throughout the day, several visitors asked about other animals I’ve painted and mentioned my "American Original" bison design from my online shop. That was all the encouragement I needed! Right then and there, I started sketching a bison on canvas, letting the inspiration from our conversation flow into my work. There’s something deeply powerful about bison—symbols of resilience and strength—and I’m excited to develop these sketches into finished pieces soon. Sunshine, Smiles, and Artistic Inspiration
And then, of course, there was the sunshine! I may have gotten a bit of a sunburn on the side of my neck, but honestly, it was delightful—I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to get a little extra color in February! The warmth and light only added to the energy of the day.

All in all, it was a wonderful and uplifting experience—one that left me feeling even more connected to the art community and motivated to keep creating.
